The Victorian Society at Falls Church (VSFC), Virginia, was founded in 1995 to promote the
Victorian heritage of the City of Falls Church. While its primary focus is still the history and heritage
of Falls Church, the Society’s interests have expanded to include all aspects of the Victorian era.
During this time the membership has expanded, too, with members throughout Northern Virginia,
Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC.
As part of our yearly programs the Society holds a variety of events, re-enactments, and demonstrations designed to educate the public and our members about Victorian culture, manners, dress, architecture, entertainments, and history. We don’t focus on just one aspect or decade of the Victorian era but instead take a wide view by offering various events that cover the 1840’s up through 1915. Over the years, our offerings have included literary evenings featuring the writings of Victorian authors, programs on Victorian topics via Zoom, a book discussion group, picnics with croquet and lawn bowling, civilian Civil War re-enactments, teas and socials, living history programs, fashion shows, workshops for making 19th century hats, clothing, and accessories, theater outings to see Victorian era plays and musicals, historic home tours, trips to Victorian locations (such as Cape May, NJ), and a ball, featuring period dancing and guests in 19th century attire, and a Robert Burns Night. Our goal is to experience all facets of the Victorian era lifestyle and have a good time doing it.
The Society is also active in the community by sponsoring events related to the history of Falls Church and raising funds for a variety of Falls Church-related projects including a Victorian fountain for Frady Park and a walking tour map of Victorian architecture. We have participated in annual re-enactments such as the First Arbor Day held in Falls Church, a Very Victorian Christmas held at Cherry Hill Farmhouse, Watch Night in the City of Falls, and other civic events.
As a VSFC member, you will receive our quarterly newsletter, “Victoria’s Messenger” which contains a detailed calendar of Society activities, educational articles, historical information, Victorian-era recipes and etiquette, and other matters of interest to our members. The Society also sponsors a website at www.victoriansocietyatfallschurch.net and an email list which provides members with an opportunity to receive the latest news and information about Society events.
We invite you to complete the below membership form today…join our friendly group of Victorian era enthusiasts and have fun exploring the lifestyle and culture of the 19th century. We’re confident you’ll be glad you did!
